Rainbow power community assessments

Rainbow Power youth council have developed a comprehensive checklist to review mainstream youth services and schools to evaluate their LGBTQ+ inclusivity and they provide guidance to help services improve where required.

Services that meet the minimum standard and above will be awarded our vinyl sticker to display at their centre or school.

George Shearing – Unique Youth Club

At an initial visit we found Unique to be a very welcoming centre keen to update paperwork and displays to be more visibly LGBTQ+ inclusive. Staff had completed relevant training and gave really inclusive and supportive responses to our assessment questions.

A really positive follow up visit – wonderful to see progress flags displayed on their webpage and throughout the building (with plans to get these actually painted on the walls for a permanent feature) and fantastic to see the updates to their membership form and SEN passport in line with our previous feedback!

Kimber Skate Park

At an initial visit we found Kimber to be a very welcoming centre keen to update systems and displays to be more visibly LGBTQ+ inclusive. Lots of fabulous work taking place with examples including the updated promotion of a girl’s group to include allies which engaged trans participants. Feedback was provided on ways to make their great work more visible…

A really positive follow up visit – wonderful to see the pride flag displayed in the window on arrival and the changes to membership information in line with our previous feedback!

Garratt Park School

We found Garratt Park to have an extremely inclusive and welcoming approach – with regard to LGBTQ+ inclusivity and across all diversity strands. Our Rainbow Power reps were especially impressed by the behaviour procedures to tackle HBT phobia with all incidents treated as ‘serious incidents’.

It was also extremely positive that the LGBTQ+ role is embedded as a lead role and not linked to an individual staff member.
