LGBTQ+ young people come to The Gap youth club in London to feel safe & included. Many of our members are not out at home or school and the Gap is the only place they can be their true selves. We desperately need funds to be able to offer much needed 1:1 mentoring to support our members. The negative impact of discrimination often leads to mental health difficulties including: self harm, drug & alcohol misuse, depression & anxiety, as well as higher levels of truancy to avoid the school environment. Our members also face homelessness if their family rejects their sexuality &/or gender identity. Some members sadly turn to risky behaviours as a way to try and ‘fit in’ leaving them open to exploitation.
We believe every LGBTQ+ child has the right to be themselves without fear of discrimination or bullying. If you believe this too, please help by becoming a Free2B sponsor
Free2B values a young person’s right to privacy and we do not make public an individual child’s need for help. Where we have photos of young people, we have sought appropriate permission and changed details including the child’s name. Privacy and respect are important for both children and sponsors.
