Important information:

The gym is very public, and there is no privacy for conversations. Although the sessions may have an element of mentoring, they are not a mentoring space.

These sessions are specifically focused on strength and fitness training.

Lianne is working with you as a coach, and although she is also a Free2B mentor, the coaching is a separate role and not a mentoring space.

For health and safety, the training session will involve instructions and activity in the gym. Please note that the gym environment is a public space where other people may hear your conversations.

Additionally, there is an expectation of personal accountability and responsibility for timekeeping and communication. By signing up, you agree to communicate responsibly regarding any changes to your session time. This includes being on time for scheduled sessions or providing notice if you are going to be late or unable to attend. This ensures an effective training session for you, shows respect for your coach and others also taking part. Consistent failure to respect these agreements may impact the availability of sessions to you.

We know there may be many reasons you might be anxious about going to a gym or training in a park so we hope the list below will answer some of your worries…

Gym equipment can be confusing and you might be worried about how to use it correctly. Our qualified trainer Lianne is here to help and will talk you through how to use the equipment.

Other people working out in a gym or park may seem scary…We can’t control other peoples behaviour, but Lianne will be with you to support you at each session.

Gendered changing rooms prevent many trans and gender non-conforming people from accessing gyms and fitness centres. We will discuss this with you before you attend a centre and will let you know what facilities they have. Sometimes a helpful solution can be to arrive already in your training clothes.

If you are not sure what to wear, Lianne can talk this through with you.

If there is something else that may be stopping you from taking part – please speak to Lianne so we can support you to find a helpful way forward.

what to wear?

For your own safety and to follow health & safety protocols of the training venues, it is essential that you wear appropriate sports clothing to sessions including sportswear or clothing you can move freely in and appropriate footwear.

For example, this could be wearing loose baggy clothes, or supportive (but not restricting) underwear / sports bras.

What not to wear:

Unfortunately, it is not safe to use any restricting techniques or clothing during exercise – such as binding or tucking.

To help minimise dysphoria please talk this through with Lianne to find affirming ways to take part.

Say about us?

  • I just wanted to thank the team at Free2b Alliance. You have given us the right support and advice at just the right time. Not having experienced it before it has sometimes been hard to negotiate our way through developing the right approach for a child who is transitioning; your straightforward, sensitive, caring and informative advice has been a life-line.

    Thank you! Jonathan Whitfield, Headteacher,
    Woodingdean Primary School
